SolOLED has developed sustainable, metal‑free organic thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) emitters that are ideally suited for solution‑processed OLED displays.

Unlike small molecules, both dendrimers and polymers are ideal for the solution‑processed manufacture of large‑area devices due to their superior film‑forming ability, excellent thermal and morphological stability, and high affinity for substrates. The molecular weight distribution of polymers, however, normally leads to batch‑to‑batch inconsistency of their properties, which is undesirable for OLED applications as it leads to suboptimal performance. In contrast, dendrimers have a well‑defined molecular weight and so their (photo)physical properties are consistently reproduced batch‑to‑batch.

SolOLED has developed TADF dendrimers that are ideally suited to the manufacture of solution‑processed OLEDs. Through judicious molecular design, the emission colour can be tuned from blue to red while retaining highly efficient TADF emission.
