Possible use of OLD

Organic Light‑Emitting Diode (OLED) displays provide excellent picture quality in a range of consumer electronics. OLED displays have excellent colour reproduction, high contrast ratio, and low power consumption. OLEDs are the dominant display technology in mobile phones and small, portable electronics.

Each pixel in an OLED display is composed of a multi‑layer stack of organic semi‑conducting materials sandwiched between two electrodes. The colour of each pixel is based on the intrinsic properties of the emitter material, with red, green and blue sub‑pixels combining to produce the full colour gamut in the display.

The majority of OLED displays are fabricated by vacuum deposition, a process that is energy intensive and materials wasteful. Vacuum deposition of large displays becomes more technologically challenging and costly.

Solution‑processed OLEDs (SP‑OLEDs) by contrast are ideal for large area displays as they can be fabricated more efficiently and at lower cost.
